Set along one of Winnetka’s quiet, tree-lined avenues, this home carried a gentle character from the start—sunlight pouring through every window, rooms with generous proportions, and a spirit that felt warm even before the furnishings arrived. My clients asked me to bring coherence and calm to the spaces guests encounter first: the foyer, living room, and dining room. These rooms form the emotional center of the home, yet they lacked definition and visual flow. The goal was to create a welcoming sequence—one that felt relaxed, natural, and unmistakably theirs.
What followed was a thoughtful reimagining of how each room could function and feel, grounded in the clients’ love of cozy California neutrals, soft textures, and an easeful sense of luxury.
Like many older Winnetka homes, the main floor rooms were visually connected but didn’t quite speak to one another. The foyer opened directly into both the living room and dining room, making the transitions feel abrupt rather than intentional. The challenge was to create distinction without formality—spaces that felt defined, but not divided.
By reconsidering scale, flow, and the layering of materials, each room found its own quiet identity while still participating in a cohesive whole. The home now unfolds with a soft rhythm: warm, welcoming, and gently elevated.
The foyer became the project’s anchor—a moment of calm that establishes the palette and mood for the entire home. A sculptural bench in warm wheat velvet rests beneath a large-scale artwork, creating an understated focal point. Rounded stools bring organic form, while the Lantern sconces wash the space in a soft, flattering glow.
The effect is simple, textural, and inviting. A place to land.
The living room needed to feel serene but never stark. Soft, layered neutrals wrap the space, while quiet pattern and gentle texture bring depth. Rounded silhouettes in the seating make the room feel approachable from every angle, encouraging conversation and comfort.
A sculptural coffee table serves as the grounding element, . The result is a room that feels both refined and lived in—a retreat meant for slow mornings and long evenings.
At the center of the home, the dining room balances approachability with a subtle sense of ceremony. A hand-finished chandelier becomes an art piece overhead, illuminating a richly grained table and textural chairs in deep charcoal. The curated grid of contemporary artwork establishes rhythm on the wall, giving the space movement and structure.
Nothing feels overly formal; everything feels intentional.
Across each room, the palette remains soft and grounded. Materials stay natural and tactile. Shapes are sculptural, inviting, and quietly modern. The connection between spaces is now fluid and harmonious—each room distinct, yet all part of the same calm narrative.
At its core, this project reflects our belief that a home should mirror the lives unfolding inside it. Every texture and silhouette was chosen to elevate the quiet rituals of daily living. The result is a space that gently reveals our clients to themselves—welcoming, connected, and deeply their own.
