In Chicago’s historic Hyde Park, this kitchen renovation was a joyful collaboration between Jasmin Whitmore Design and a client who lives life in full color. Together, we transformed a traditional layout into a space that honors her fearless love of design while creating a highly functional, family-friendly home.
Deep oxblood cabinetry anchors the space, paired with a timeless checkerboard floor in Canyon and Bone from Zia Tile—a nod to classic European kitchens reimagined with modern warmth. The design palette draws inspiration from the movement and artistry of Calacatta Viola marble, selected for the counters and backsplash in a soft honed finish. Its rich veining set the tone for every element that followed.
At the heart of the room, a custom built-in banquette upholstered in Oia by Nobilis adds playful texture and offers smart seating for a young family. Every inch was considered to maximize storage, function, and flow while keeping the aesthetic soulful and expressive.
The result is a kitchen that celebrates color, character, and connection—a true reflection of the people who call it home. Seeing this family happily ensconced in their new surroundings remains one of the greatest joys of the project.
