Partnering with Canon, we decided to bring the historic skate spot LOVE Park—documented extensively by Canon cameras in the past—back to life through some of Canon’s latest, cutting-edge technology. Skatable obstacles from LOVE Park, that were demolished in 2016, were recreated and combined with an accurate virtual environment in a first-of-its-kind mixed-reality skate session that made the dreams of up and coming Japanese skaters come true.
Skateboarding at LOVE Park could be experienced and seen like never before, thanks to Canon’s Volumetric Video System which combines a 360 green screen with input from over 100 synchronized 4K cameras to instantly generate live 3D footage, that allows the viewpoint to roam freely.
The experience was then shared with the all-digital CES audience, through an interactive timeline that tells the story of LOVE Park’s glory days, demise, and its spectacular resurrection, using iconic footage, quotes and interviews from renowned skaters and photographers.
